BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Ola Awad is an accomplished and active member of the Palestinian community, regionally and internationally , with over 20 years’ experience working on various topics including modernization of Statistics, Sustainable Development, Gender Equality, Youth, Labor Market, Palestinian Economy, Good Governance, Statistical Literacy, Management and Communication. She has been the President for PCBS since 2009, leading the successful development and implementation of various statistical and non-statistical programs which seek to further support the position of PCBS in particular and Palestine in general on the local, regional and international levels . Dr. Awad is the first woman to be elected from developing countries and the Arab region to lead the International Association for Official Statistics (IAOS). She is currently a council member in the International Statistical Institute (ISI) for the years (2017-2021). Dr. Awad also represents the Arab region in the High-level group for Partnership, Coordination and Capacity-building for Statistics for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (HLG-SDGs) for a second round, in addition, she has been a fellow of the Aspen Institute Middle East Leadership Initiative (MELI) since 2013.
Regionally, Dr. Awad is a Board member of the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Center for Islamic Countries, She’s also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Arab Institute for Research and Training in Statistics, member of the Board of Directors of the Union of Arab Statisticians, member of the Permanent Executive Committee of Statistics in the Secretariat General of the Arab League. Nationally, Dr. Awad is the Secretary General of the Palestinian Statistical Advisory Council, the National Director of Agriculture Census of 2010 and 2020, the National Director of the Population, Housing and Establishments Census of 2017, a member of the High Level National Committee for Economic Development, a member for the program for Women’s strategic Advancement (ProWSA), a member of Board of Palestinian Economic Policy Research Institute-MAS, a member of Higher Council for Innovation and Excellence, a member of the Palestinian Supreme Council of Youth and Sports, a member of the Board of Trustees of Yasser Arafat Foundation, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Palestinian Initiative for the Promotion of Global Dialogue and Democracy “MIFTAH”, a member of the Executive Office of the Palestinian Olympic Committee, and a member of the Advisory Board in “This Week in Palestine” Magazine.
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
Dr. Awad holds a Doctorate of Business Administration from the University of Liverpool– UK, a MSc in Applied Statistics from Birzeit University, a Master degree in Business Administration and Management from Boston University and a BSc in Economics from Birzeit University.
